The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Isiolo Campus on Thursday (July 6, 2023) received Ksh 2.5 million in bursary funds to empower and facilitate student education.
In recent years, the County has continued to support the Campus in infrastructural development, student bursaries, alongside other initiatives.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo, KMTC Board Chairperson Amb. Zachary Muburi-Muita welcomed the bursary allocation noting that it will go a long way in facilitating the training of needy students at Isiolo Campus.
“The College has continued to grow at an impressive rate and we therefore request the County to continue seconding staff as well as allocate more resources to support the growing student numbers and courses,” he said.
He thanked the County for facilitating the development of the Campus, adding that the College will continue to allocate resources to finance additional projects.
The Deputy Governor Dr. James Lowasa who led the discussions on behalf of the Governor pledged to continue supporting the College in its endeavors.
Dr. Lowasa commissioned a 280-capacity hostel to enhance the provision of accommodation services to KMTC Isiolo students.
He called upon the College to continue offering need based courses to support the strengthening of primary healthcare which is the cornerstone for the realization of the Governments Universal Health Coverage agenda.
Amb. Muita was accompanied by CEO, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, Board Directors, Dr. Stephen Ochiel, and Ms. Jennifer Kibagendi. Others were the Deputy Director Academic Dr. Nyawira Mwangi, Principal Isiolo Campus Ms. Agnes Linus, and Inter-Governmental Relations Coordinator Dr. Leah Bii.
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has been honored with a prestigious Transform Education Award 2023 for its exceptional contribution to the development of globally competitive healthcare professionals.
The award was presented to KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch during the Transforming Education Summit and Award ceremony, themed “Role of Stakeholders in Transforming Education for the Future,” held on July 7, 2023, in Nairobi.
The Transform Education Award recognizes KMTC’s unwavering commitment to advancing the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Agenda and its dedication to nurturing outstanding medical professionals. This recognition reflects the College’s significant efforts in transforming the educational landscape of the medical field in Kenya.
Expressing gratitude Dr. Oluoch reaffirmed the College’s ongoing mission to produce well-trained and competent healthcare professionals. In response to receiving the Award, Dr. Oluoch stated, “We are immensely grateful for this esteemed recognition bestowed upon us. At KMTC, we are deeply committed to shaping the future of healthcare by developing globally competitive human resources. This award reinforces our resolve to contribute meaningfully to the UHC Agenda.”
Dr. Oluoch further acknowledged the collective efforts of KMTC’s fraternity, whose dedication and hard work contributed to the College’s success. “This award belongs to our entire KMTC family. It is a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence exhibited by our faculty, staff, and students. Together, we are transforming the medical field and making a positive impact on healthcare in Kenya,” Dr. Oluoch added.

This transformative recognition reaffirms KMTC’s position as a leading institution in shaping the future of medical education and healthcare in Kenya.
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and the West Pokot County Government have set the groundwork for a partnership geared towards strengthening the training and development of healthcare professionals.
The discussions held on July 11, 2023 at the Governor’s office centered on enhancing training at the KMTC Kapenguria, with a particular focus on deploying faculty and clinical preceptors, improving infrastructure, providing clinical attachment and implementing innovative funding methods to support needy students from the County.
This is expected to contribute further to the region’s economic growth while meeting the healthcare needs of the local community.
West Pokot Governor H.E. Simon Kachapin expressed his acknowledgment of the College’s substantial economic impact on the region and voiced his commitment to its growth. He pledged to expand health facilities in the county to accommodate the growing number of students seeking attachment opportunities.
“KMTC Kapenguria has transformed our region, and we are fully committed to its growth,” stated Governor Kachapin. He added that he will continue working closely with the College to ensure allocation of additional land for further expansion of Kapenguria Campus.
KMTC Board Chairperson Amb. Zachary Muburi-Muita expressed gratitude for the County government’s continuous support in developing the Campus saying “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the County government for their unwavering support in developing the Kapenguria Campus. We look forward to offering additional need-based courses that will directly benefit the local community.”
These sentiments were reiterated by KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch who emphasized the significance of the partnership between KMTC and the County Government of West Pokot in furthering the development of the College and subsequently, the County.
On the sidelines, the delegation, accompanied by County Executive Committee Member for Health Hon. Claire Chemutai Parklea, embarked on a tour of the Kapenguria Campus where a newly constructed ablution block for students was commissioned, further enhancing their learning experience.
As a symbolic gesture of the continued partnership, they planted trees on the campus grounds.
