President Ruto Commissions KMTC Teso Campus Affordable Housing Project
His Excellency, President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, commissioned the Affordable Housing Project for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Teso Campus, students.
The project is expected to accommodate up to 340 students, significantly enhancing access to safe and adequate student housing.
In his address, President Ruto underscored the critical role played by medical students in the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), emphasizing the need to provide a conducive learning environment.
“Some of these students are not accommodated within the campus and are forced to seek housing in the surrounding community. That is why we are here today to construct hostels for students,” he said.
The President further noted that the Government has earmarked the construction of 6,500 additional hostel units across the country, benefiting KMTC as well.
“In this financial year, we have earmarked the construction of 6,500 hostel units to accommodate university, TVET, and KMTC students,” he said.
President Ruto also pledged to construct an additional 20 classrooms to expand training capacity at the Campus.
“I hereby direct the contractor under the Affordable Housing Programme to commence construction within the next two weeks,” he directed.
The President was received by KMTC Board Chairperson Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot, in the company of Board Director Dr. Hardlyne Lusui, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch, and Teso Campus Principal Mr. Daniel Kurui.
He was accompanied by several leaders, including Busia County Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma, National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, Teso North MP, Hon. Oku Kaunya, among other dignitaries.
Also present were Registrar Mr. Ronald Wasike, Deputy Corporate Communications Manager Mr. Hezron Ochiel, Bungoma Campus Principal Ms. Victoria Koi, and Chwele Campus Principal Mr. David Omoit, among other officials.
