Supply Chain Manager Mr. Richard Basil officially opened the e-GP training for procurement officers in Mombasa, urging participants to embrace the programme and play their role in driving the successful implementation of the system. He highlighted the benefits of e-GP, including enhanced transparency, improved efficiency, and cost savings, noting that these gains will strengthen procurement processes and support KMTC's mandate.

KMTC Scales Up Staff Training on Electronic Government Procurement System

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has up-scaled staff training on the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system as part of efforts to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in procurement processes across the College.

The Government is rolling out the e-GP system to all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), State Corporations, and public institutions to automate procurement, improve transparency, strengthen oversight, reduce procurement-related risks, and promote prudent use of public resources.

In line with this directive, the College, in May 2026, launched a series of capacity-building programmes targeting key officers who will spearhead the implementation of the system across KMTC. The participants include Supply Chain Management Officers, Administrative Officers, Campus Principals, Heads of Departments, Human Resource Officers, and other staff involved in procurement and financial management processes.

Speaking during the opening of a five-day training programme at KMTC Mombasa on June 1, 2026, the College Supply Chain Manager, Mr. Richard Basil, who represented the CEO, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, underscored the significance of the programme in supporting the College’s commitment to effective procurement management.

He noted that the initiative is a strategic step towards aligning KMTC’s procurement operations with national reforms in public financial management.

“The implementation of the e-GP system marks an important milestone in public procurement. The platform will enhance transparency, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen accountability in the management of public resources. I encourage participants to take full advantage of this training and acquire the skills necessary to support successful implementation across the College,” he said.

The training is being facilitated by officers from the National Treasury, who are equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to use the system effectively. The initiative complements the Government’s broader transition to the e-GP system, a digital platform designed to streamline procurement processes and improve service delivery within public institutions.

Through practical sessions, participants are gaining hands-on experience in key areas of the system, including procurement planning, requisition management, supplier registration, tender management, contract administration, compliance requirements, and online procurement procedures.

Human Resource Officers and Administrators drawn from campuses across the country were trained at Nakuru Campus from May 25 to 29, 2026, further expanding internal capacity for e-GP implementation.

The training will be extended to other staff cadres in the coming weeks, as the College continues to strengthen institutional readiness for the full migration to the Electronic Government Procurement system.
