KMTC Beats Several Universities in New Webometrics Rankings
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has recorded a strong performance in the latest Webometrics Rankings released in January 2026.
According to the rankings, KMTC is second among non-university training and research institutions in Kenya, behind the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), with the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in third place.
Nationally, the College is ranked 20th overall, ahead of 46 universities. These include Africa Nazarene University, Kabarak University, Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Chuka University, Rongo University, Zetech University, the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, and Kisii University.
The University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology ranked first, second, and third, respectively.
The results reflect KMTC’s strong online visibility, growing research output, and improved access to academic content.
Commenting on the results, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch said the ranking reflects years of deliberate effort to strengthen training quality, expand research, and grow the College’s digital footprint.
He noted that KMTC has continued to build its national profile while making academic work more visible and accessible to students, researchers, and health professionals.
“The results reinforce our role as a key player in health training and applied research in Kenya, with growing influence both online and within academic circles,” said Dr. Oluoch.
KMTC’s performance highlights the College’s continued investment in modern learning systems, digital platforms, and research that responds to the needs of the health sector.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is produced by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council based in Madrid. The rankings assess how institutions share knowledge through digital platforms, including the impact and reach of their research and the openness of their academic resources.
