KMTC Wins Digital Transformation Award in Public Sector Category

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has won the Driving Digitization in Government Award under the Public Sector Education Category at the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) 2025.

The recognition ceremony, held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, in South Africa, brought together senior public officials, government agencies, and organizations from across Africa to celebrate excellence and innovation in public service.

The award recognizes KMTC’s successful use of digital technology to improve the efficiency of health training.

CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch welcomed the award, describing it as an important milestone in the College’s digital transformation journey.

“This award reflects our commitment towards ensuring innovation and digital transformation,” he said.

“This award belongs to all of us who, in one way or another, contributed to the success of the College. I want to sincerely thank the Board of Directors, staff, and students for making us great,” he added.

The College has introduced several digital systems that have redefined service delivery across its campuses.

The Student Management Information System allows students to register, access examination results, pay fees, and download transcripts online.

The Virtual Learning Environment supports online teaching and assessments, while the Enterprise Resource Planning System has enhanced efficiency in finance, procurement, and human resources.

The digitized admissions system now allows applicants to submit and track their applications remotely, eliminating the need to travel to verify their status.

The College’s digitization efforts are part of the government’s Digital Economy Blueprint, the Universal Health Coverage agenda, and the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda (BETA), ensuring that technology drives both educational and health outcomes.

The award entry was submitted by Dr. Kenneth Riany (Manager ICT), Mr. Hezron Ochiel (Deputy Corporate Communications Manager), and Ms. Linet Makazi (Lecturer, Nursing).

KMTC has received several recognitions in recent years, including the Leader in Digital Innovation Award (Education Sector, 2024), CIO 100 Plus One Award (2023), Digital Inclusion Award (2023), and the Corporate Governance Award (2023).
