KMTC Strengthens Partnership with Nyandarua County to Expand Specialized Healthcare Training
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyandarua Campus is set to benefit from major infrastructural upgrades and expanded opportunities aimed at strengthening healthcare training.
Students from the Campus will also undertake clinical placements at JM Hospital, which is being upgraded into a 500-bed Level 5 facility under the Mashujaa Complex.
This was revealed by Nyandarua Governor, H.E. Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, during a courtesy visit to KMTC Headquarters in Nairobi, where he was received by CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.
“We have embarked on several projects, including levelling the Campus compound and constructing access roads. Additionally, we are putting up a storey building within our facility, and once completed, KMTC will be allocated space to establish a laboratory,” the Governor pledged.
Dr. Oluoch thanked the Governor for his continued support of the Campus, noting that the collaboration has enabled the College to succeed in many areas.
He emphasized the importance of cementing the partnership through a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the County.
He further underscored the need for expanded student enrolment, the introduction of specialized courses, and improved infrastructure to create a more conducive learning environment.
Dr. Oluoch urged the County to support vulnerable students through innovative financing models such as a revolving fund, while also addressing challenges like road access and inadequate facilities that hinder learning.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Director (Academics) Dr. Nyawira Mwangi and Deputy Director (Finance, Planning and Administration) Ms. Lucy Chebungei.
Dr. Nyawira highlighted the importance of modernizing health facilities and strengthening staffing to support flagship courses such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine, and Nutrition.
On her part, Ms. Chebungei proposed county sponsorships to enable staff to pursue Higher Diploma training at KMTC, thereby enhancing capacity for service delivery.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish a joint task force to fast-track collaboration in clinical placements, staff development programs, and county-level capacity building under a strategic MoU to be signed.
