KMTC opens the thirtieth MTC at Nyamira District Hospital

The thirtieth MTC has been opened at Nyamira District Hospital. The new College will open its doors to 40 nursing students in March 2012.

The Nursing Council, the body mandated to regulate the teaching of nurses in the country, has already approved the campus.

The opening of the College follows intense lobbying by the Nyamira Community led by the area Member of Parliament Dr James Gesami rooting for establishment of the College.

The establishment of Nyamira MTC comes hot on the heels of starting an MTC at Bungoma District hospital, which opened its doors to the first batch of nursing students in April, 2011. Webuye, Siaya and Msambweni MTCs were also started courtesy of the communities' efforts.

Former Nakuru MTC deputy Principal Mr Peterson Ongeri is the acting Principal.

Close to ten other communities with close proximity to well established hospitals have approached the KMTC to help them establish medical training colleges.
Bondo, Migori, Kapenguria, Kapchorwa, Iten and Kitale – all with district hospitals near them – have written to the KMTC Director Dr. Olang'o Onudi expressing desire to start MTCs.

Most of these places have ready structures donated by the community which only require minimal renovations to open doors to new students even as early as September 2012. Most notable is the communities' passion and determination.
The communities have pledged to support the establishment of the colleges.
