KMTC graduates more than 4600 to the medical field
More than 4600 KMTC students graduated on KMTC's 77th annual graduation ceremony held at the Graduation Square, Nairobi, on Thursday 3rd December 2009 at a colourful ceremony presided over by the Minister for Medical Services Hon. Prof. Anyang Nyong'o.

Seven times the faculty and departmental heads presented to the Minister graduands for award of diplomas.
The torrential rains that threatened to mar the event, the Minister said, "Comes to water the seed of knowledge that has successfully been planted here."

He urged the young graduands to "apply your patriotic gear and ensure that this nation is served by your skills."
He praised the College for its role in health training, which, he noted, is enabling the ministry to "critically position the college to answer to all the country's health sector middle-level manpower needs."

Urging the College not to tie training to bed capacity, he challenged management to move forward: "Make KMTC better always. KMTC of tomorrow should be better than KMTC of today."

The PS Prof. James Kiyiapi, who also attended the ceremony, urged the government to employ the graduands so that they could improve the health sector.

Both the Director Dr. Olang'o Onudi and the Board Chairman Prof. James Kahindi thanked the College partners. Their speeches highlighted some of the achievements and challenges facing the college as well as its future plans. They focused on reforms being undertaken in the College, especially on admissions, training and curriculum review and implementation.

The hard work and commitment of staff, they said, was exemplified by acquisition of the coveted ISO 9001:2008 certification.

ISO certification, Dr Onudi said, "demonstrates that the College is committed to embracing quality in all its undertakings" and sets its agenda in the attainment of Kenya's Vision 2030.

KMTC, the Board Chairman said, would position the ministry "to make a big contribution to the health and socio- economic sectors in Kenya as enshrined in Kenya's Vision 2030."

The Director identified the College's limited capacity as one of the greatest challenge facing KMTC. "Currently, we are only able to recruit about 22 percent of the applicants each year."

Challenging the graduands not to sit on their laurels but to seek more training, he urged them to "use the knowledge, skills and attitude you gained from here to positively change the lives of others."
