Be more focused in service delivery to Kenyans, Director urges staff

KMTC Director Dr. Olang'o Onudi is urging KMTC staff to be more focused in their service delivery to Kenyans. On his inaugural tour of KMTC constituent colleges, the Director has emphasized consultation, accountability and team work. He has put on notice laziness and lack of focus.

From Nairobi to Kisii, Homabay, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kapkatet, Siaya to Kabarnet -- some of the colleges he has visited -- the Director emphasises on the need for all staff to work hard to deliver improved services to Kenyans. "All of us must play our part in taking the college to the next level," he said.

Dr. Onudi has urged colleges to prioritise needs and focus on activities that are core to the College's core business of training.

Addressing staff at one of the Colleges, he assured staff and students of his management's commitment to the advancement of the College: "We will support you so long as you do the right thing," he said.

He said all have a duty to deliver to Kenyans. "The performance contract the College signs must be cascaded to the lower levels. Each employee, from the principal to the sweeper, must have their individual work plans signed by their supervisors," he said.

He urged staff to be multi- skilled to help bridge the gap of staff shortage at the college.

On the issue of staff shortage that faces some colleges, the Director assured the colleges that negotiations with the Ministry are already underway to second staff as a stop-gap measure, while the college continues with the recruitment of new staff.

Saying that resources are ever scarce, he urged campuses to prudently manage what is available to them for the public good. He said his management will work hard with all staff to make KMTC a centre of excellence.

The Director's tour is part of his orientation to the College since he joined the institution in June, 2009.
