Brief History
  • Thika Medical Training College started in 1969 under the sponsorship of Norwegian Government in collaboration with the Kenya Government.
  • The college started training Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurses (KECHN) up to the year 2006.
  • Started up grading for (KECHN) to Kenya Registered Nurses for duration of eighteen (18) months in 1998 to date.
  • Started pre-service (KRCHN) March 2005 with 50 students and that pioneer class has just qualified.
  • Started Diploma in Clinical Medicine in September 2005 with sixty two (62) students who have since qualified.
  • Started Distant Learning in March 2007 with fifty one (51) student for upgrading who are ongoing and in their final module and whose progress is quite satisfactory. We also run HBC courses in conjunction with Mildmay.
  • The students' population has grown steadily to the current number- 537.



Location
We are located in Thika, 50 KM from Nairobi, specifically in Thika Municipality, general Kago road, next to Thika District Hospital.
We are about 30 meters from Thika District Hospital. In addition we are affiliated to Gatundu District hospital where our nursing students obtain much required practice



Course Offered
1) Diploma in Clinical Medicine.
2) Diploma in Nursing – pre-service, in-service and distance learning.



Housing and Dining
We have hostels that hold about three hundred and ten (310) students who dine in the campus.


Sports
We are actively involved in the on-going inter zone sports tournament. We are in the same zone with Garissa and Murang'a and we are a cohesive/harmonious group.

Population of staff and students
Staff - We have thirteen (13) teaching staff, four (4) in Clinical Medicine and nine (9) in Nursing and twenty six (26) non teaching staff.

Students -
We have a total of five hundred and thirty seven (537) students.

Other details
  • We are a cohesive, hardworking team. Through this teamwork our pioneer Clinical Medicine and KRCHN (pre-service) classes did exceptionally well in their respective qualifying examinations.
  • We have two (2) busses which hold a total of 54 passengers.
  • 29 and the other 25.
  • We have expanded in physical facilities in class rooms and Skills Lab computer.

Research is a crucial component of training and it is given emphasis in the KMTC Act.

Alumni
