History
Mathare MTC started in 1961 to train psychiatric nurses who would serve Mathare Hospital and psychiatric units in the districts. This followed decentralization of psychiatric services to the district level by the Government.

It is the only college in Kenya that offers psychiatric nursing to students at higher diploma and basic diploma levels.

Location
The college is located 5 km from the city of Nairobi, along a major highway. It is a unique college that has serene environment that is conducive for learning.

Courses Offered
The college trains Post Basic course in Kenya Registered Psychiatric Nursing (KRPN).
Our Students go for clinical practice in (Mathare hospital), one of the biggest referral hospital for psychiatric patients in Kenya and East Africa.
Students get experience for child psychiatry in Kenyatta National hospital, one of the biggest referral hospital south of Sahara. We have Doctors and Nurses who mentor the students during this important clinical practice. The learning is also strengthened by field trips to various institutions for example, prisons for experience of forensic psychiatry and special schools for the mentally challenged children.
We offer accommodation to both private and Students from other Kenya Medical Training Colleges throughout the year during their clinical practice in Mathare hospital.
We have a hostel that accommodates residential students while the non residential students can access transport easily because of the proximity of our college to the main highway that leads to Nairobi City, its environs, and availability of transport for 24 hrs.
We have designated psychiatric units in both Provincial and District hospitals utilized by our Students during their community psychiatric experience. We liaise with the staffs with a wide experience in community psychiatry as we train the students during this important experience.
Our Students practice with simulated patients before they practice on real patients.
Above all we are ISO 9001certified, which makes our Graduates to be offered employment both nationally and internationally.
Our Lecturers link up with our clinical mentors to ensure that our Students achieve both theory and clinical objectives.
Your admission to our college will be a pleasure to both the Lecturers and Mentors in the clinical area.
WE AT KMTC MATHARE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR APPLICATION FOR THIS WORTHY COURSE FOR ALL POST GRADUATE STUDENTS.
