The college started in September 2007 with 60 students in the department of Clinical Medicine which was followed in March by 40 students in the department of Nursing.
We are now in the second year of study. The college was started following the President's visit when residents requested for it. The request was grated and a task force formed under the direction of the Director KMTC to implement the directive. Buildings that previously housed part of the hospital was renovated into four classrooms and administration block, kitchen and dinning hall (capacity 100). The two classrooms are currently used as temporary skills lab and library.
The college is within the hospital compound but plans are at an advanced stage to have land demarcated to separate it from the hospital. It is also in a relatively rural setting that allows students a quiet atmosphere for learning.
Currently, there are 160 students and another 40 students are due for admission in March 2009. There are 8 members of teaching staff, four in Nursing and three in Clinical Medicine and one Physiotherapist seconded by the Ministry of Health. We also have 22 non-teaching staff who include 8 working on casual basis.
Kapkatet KMTC is located at Kapkatet market 35 kms South of Kericho town in Bureti District in the Rift Valley Province. It is surrounded by several schools with rich agricultural area.
The hospital administration gave out two flats that housed staff. These were renovated into a male and female hostel (capacity 200). Buildings that previously housed part of the hospital were also renovated into four classrooms and administration block, kitchen and dinning hall (capacity 100).
The college is actively involved in sports activities in various disciplines and has participated within zone 8 events with almost all the zones.
