KMTC's innovative E-learning programme is designed to revolutionalise the way training is carried out in the College's 16-departments.
KMTC embraced the new technology in 2007, and uses the technology to cover various training functions. These functions can be dealt with collectively with the use of operating systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), which are used to built an E-learning platform.
The KMTC E-learning platform is built on an open source learning management system called Moodle. Moodle functions to make learning content more readily available to students. It also offers a variety of tools that can be used to develop interesting learning content and to allow assessment. The system also allows plug-ins, that is other learning tools to be integrated in it.
The platform allows different rights accessible to different users, who are able to see more or less of the platform depending on these rights.
Administrators can access everything on the platform; tutors have a lot of access but not to the structure of the system while students have access to limited areas. So, everybody has his or her personal learning space.
Designed to allow for general space as well as specific space for individual colleges, the platform is linked to the College Website. The platform makes it possible for users to upload course materials at the level of the national resource centre as well as at the constituent colleges' level.
Each course consists of a number of course modules which can take a variety of formats such as resource materials, discussion forums, tests, links to relevant web resources, assignments, wikipedia, glossaries, polls, surveys and assignments.
