What is an E-learning platform?

An organization that wants to be successful in implementing e-learning, needs to have some technology at its disposal to cover various training functions. These functions can be dealt with collectively with the use of operating systems called Learning Management Systems (LMS). An E-learning platform can be built using these operating systems. Several hundred different types of E-learning platforms exist of varying complexity and with different functions they can perform.

You can purchase a Learning Management system or you can use open source software which can be obtained for free. The KMTC E-learning platform is built on an open source learning management system called Moodle. From late 2007 onwards KMTC has collaborated with Computers For Schools Kenya to develop the E-learning platform.
