Introduction
The department of Clinical Medicine was started in 1928 and is one of the oldest and largest department in the college. It trains clinical officers (C.O), a middle level health personnels who offer a wide range of medical services – curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative- in all parts of the country.The C.Os supplement the work of medical doctors at all levels of healthcare – from health centers (where they are in charge), district and provincial hospitals to referral teaching hospitals
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants should meet the following entry requirements: - O' level KCSE with mean grade of C (plain), C in English or Kiswahili and Biology or Biological Sciences. C- in any two of the following: Physics, chemistry, mathematics or agriculture.
- Equivalent KCE Div. 1 or II with at least six (6) credit passes in English, Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry or Physics.
Scope
The course is offered in 17 constituent colleges of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) which are Nairobi, Homabay, Kisii, Kisumu, Siaya, Webuye, Eldoret, Nakuru, Portreitz, Murang'a, Thika, Meru, Nyeri, Mombasa, Machakos and Kapkatet. However, before they are registered with the Clinical Officers Council and start practicing, the graduates have to undergo a one-year internship in a government facility.
